Founded in 1440 by Henry IV, Eton College is one of the oldest and most prestigious boys-only independent schools in the United Kingdom. Located in Windsor, Berkshire, and steeped in tradition, the college is just a short walk from Windsor Castle. Eton is well known for its academic excellence, consistently ranking at the top of school league tables, and has produced 19 British Prime Ministers.
The school offers full boarding facilities, with each of the approximately 50 boys in a boarding house being closely monitored and supported by their Housemaster. The current Headmaster, Simon Henderson, places a strong emphasis on mental health and wellbeing, acknowledging the need for Eton to adapt to modern times while preserving its rich heritage. The college boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including the Farrar Theatre and the Tony Little Centre for Innovation and Research in Learning. With a student-to-teacher ratio of roughly 1:8, Eton students can choose from a wide variety of co-curricular activities, such as rowing on Dorney Lake or taking cookery lessons with Caroline Waldegrave OBE, MD of Leiths Cookery.
Admission to Eton College is highly selective, with entry at 13+ and a small number of places available for 6th Form entry at 16+. Applicants must demonstrate above-average academic ability and potential, and while there is some support for students with Special Educational Needs, no extra support is provided for those with English as an additional language. The application process involves two rounds of assessments and interviews, with conditional offers made to successful applicants.
